Hospices access to HSE Library Resources

I work in a Hospice service, these have now been designated as Section 38 organisations. Can I sign up for access to resources via the HSE Library

Answer

S38 organisations (including the hospices or any newly designated Section 38 agencies) are not automatically eligible for access to HSE Library resources or physical sites (authorised users list for HSE Libraries are detailed here).

The HSE Library does currently have four resources that we are licenced to extend to any pre existing* Section 38 organisations, this access is onsite via IP only.

These resources are BMJ Best practice (which is openly available on the national IP so anyone can access without username or password), Proquest Health Research Premium database, Web of Science and Wiley's medical & nursing collection.

If you work in a hospice and would like onsite access to these resources please forward the IP range for your sites and we can arrange to activate onsite IP access.

Access to any further resources or facility to set up an account for offsite access via our open Athens system is only available to organisations who have negotiated an agreement with HSE Library including fees for licence costs for each resource made available via HSE Library.

If you would like to discuss an agreement with HSE libraries for access to a specific set of our resources you can contact us on HSELibrary@hse.ie and provide details of the resources you are interested in getting access to.

*Organisations with S38 designation as of February 2024
